We are a small, family run breeding and training German Shepherd kennel, located in the New England area of the United States. We are dedicated to the improvement and continuation of select bloodlines of the German Shepherd dog for work, show, protection and companionship. Our aim is to promote the total GSD, not only in structure, but health and temperament as well. We care about the German Shepherd dog and strive to produce quality, not quantity.

There are several distinct "types" of German Shepherd Dog in the modern world. There are two main types here in the United States; the Am-Bred (American Bred German Shepherd, which typically is a larger dog with its own AKC standard), and the original German Shepherd standard from Germany. Here at Von der Sandburg German Shepherds, we prefer, and strongly recommend dogs bred in accordance with the German Standard as set forth by the original breed founder, Max von Stephanitz.

As a breeder, we carefully choose our bloodlines based on research and advice from German breeders with decades of experience with this wonderful breed. In our kennel, we only breed dogs with SV certified hips and elbows, excellent health, and great temperament. For each of our potential breedings we find the best combination of dogs - selectively choosing not only according to bloodlines, but also paying close attention to temperament, health, structure, and working ability.

Our dogs are involved in all forms of sport ranging from schutzhund to agility, Canine Good Citizen, and therapy dogs. Above all, they are wonderful, stable family companions and protectors. There are always specific goals for every breeding at Von der Sandburg. Our goals include producing puppies that have the potential to become competitors in the conformation ring, schutzhund field, obedience or agility trials, assistance dogs and police K9s as well as family companion dogs. We constantly evaluate our breeding program and will hold back puppies so we can see first hand what our breedings have produced. We welcome and encourage all of our puppy buyers to stay in touch.

Being a German Shepherd breeder is a huge responsibility, because the expectations are so high.
